Residential Gardens and Landscaping: 25–35 mm
For home gardens, terraces and general landscaping, 25–35 mm is a useful starting range.
A 25–30 mm product can offer relatively easy maintenance, while around 30–35 mm can create a fuller visual appearance.
For non-infill landscaping turf, it is particularly important to check density and yarn construction because there is no loose infill layer supporting the fibers.
Recommended focus:
- 25–35 mm pile height
- Appropriate tuft density
- UV/weathering performance
- Drainage performance
- Fiber resilience
- Backing stability
Rooftops, Balconies and Terraces: 20–25 mm
For elevated applications, pile height is only one part of the equation.
The project should also consider:
- structural load,
- drainage,
- waterproofing,
- wind exposure,
- installation method,
- maintenance access.
A 20–25 mm pile can be practical because it reduces material volume and is relatively easy to maintain.
However, artificial turf should not be selected solely according to building load. The weight of the complete system, including any cushion or underlay, must be checked against the structural design.
