The base is one of the most important factors determining the long-term performance of non-infill artificial turf. A properly designed foundation helps control surface flatness, drainage, dimensional stability, seam performance, and the risk of wrinkles or localized settlement.
Because non-infill turf does not rely on loose sand or rubber infill to help stabilize the surface, the quality of the base and installation system becomes particularly important.
For many outdoor projects, the base can be constructed using either a concrete base or an asphalt base, supported by properly compacted subgrade and aggregate layers. However, there is no single base specification suitable for every project. Soil conditions, climate, drainage requirements, sports application, local codes, and the selected turf system all need to be considered.
