For concrete foundations, commonly specified considerations include:
Concrete strength
A project may specify a strength class such as C25 or higher, but the correct concrete grade should come from the structural and civil design.
Surface flatness
The surface should be checked systematically before turf installation.
A specification such as ≤3 mm deviation over a specified straightedge length may be used on some projects, but the exact straightedge length and tolerance should come from the project specification.
Curing
Fresh concrete requires adequate curing before the artificial turf system is installed.
28 days is a commonly referenced concrete curing period for conventional concrete, but it should not be treated as a universal rule that automatically determines when a turf can be installed.
More important is whether the concrete has achieved the required strength and whether its moisture condition is suitable for the adhesive and turf system.
Surface condition
Before installation, the concrete should be free from:
- Cracks requiring repair
- Loose material
- Dust
- Oil
- Standing water
- Excessive laitance
- Contamination
