Gardening club gets a helping hand

Green fingered school children in Swindon are spending more time outdoors after their wildlife pond area received a LazyLawn make-over.

The UK’s largest artificial grass brand has transformed what was a soggy, overgrown and unsafe area for the children, into a wildlife haven at East Wichel Community Primary School in Swindon.

Children in the Gardening Club, which runs every Monday after school, can now enjoy exploring the wildlife after 30 square meters of its popular Wonder Yarn 26 was installed. Sleepers were also fitted around the edge of the pond, which has provided a safe platform for the children.

Wendy Kirton, Chair of Fundraising for East Wichel Primary, said: “Most of the rainwater from the school field seemed to end up near the pond, meaning it was inaccessible and unsafe for the children to use.

“As I have a LazyLawn in my garden at home, I approached the local licensee, Lee Giles who kindly donated the turf for us.

“The children absolutely love the new wildlife pond and they are currently working on a bug hotel as their next project. We would definitely recommend LazyLawn to other schools because it’s practical and low-maintenance.”
